How the Fountains Work
Three types of water-launching hardware create the show:
- Oarsmen — swinging nozzles that sway side to side like a metronome
- Shooters — small jets that fire in fast rhythmic bursts
- Super Shooters — compressed-air cannons that blast water up to 460 feet
Everything is computer-controlled and synced to music via a dedicated sound system. The "WET Design" company that engineered the Bellagio fountains also built the Dubai Fountain, which is bigger — but the Bellagio is older, still free, and remains the gold standard.
The water is municipal drinking water and is recirculated. The fountain system actually uses less water than the grass lawns it replaced on the old Dunes golf course, which was demolished to build the Bellagio.
